below the press assembly of the University of Calabria on student protests that led to the occupation of the main auditorium of the University of Cosenza.
In recent days the students have returned to pour into the streets of major cities in Italy to show their opposition to all policies, from the Bologna Process to date, aiming to dismantle the public nature of the university. From Turin to Palermo, the student protests point to block the bill Gelmini and, in fact, today has been achieved: the measure, which had to be approved by 25, has been shifted to November 30.
The University of Calabria has been mobilized to hear their dissent.
Yesterday and women students have marched across the bridge by a noisy flyers at the end of which was blocked traffic to the shelters. Meanwhile, a council of the Faculty of Political Science has turned into an assembly held in Aula Magna, which saw the participation of professors and researchers, and that merged the students in mobilization. At the end of that, the students decided to occupy the classroom to maintain a high level of attention, until the bill will be permanently deleted from the agenda of government policy. The cuts at the university through the law 133/08 have already put a strain on the leading Italian universities, as an immediate consequence, a considerable increase in tuition fees.
This is the first indicator of the existence of a project intended to exclude from access to academic education all the poorer sections of society. Through the introduction of individuals within the boards of the universities, the DDL Gelmini determines, in fact, the privatization of the university which is directly influenced by private interests, become more knowledge-goods companies, in sale to students / users who will benefit through the exploitation of temporary teachers and researchers. We strongly reject all those students maneuvers aimed at privatizing public assets of this country: the right to education to health, the water we drink and the air we breathe.
Therefore, since 2008, we expressed the need to join the student claims to the needs of the committees in defense of the territory and those of temporary workers, who see less and less guaranteed their rights.
We are here today to broaden participation in the protest, because it is necessary that every student is aware of what is happening and what awaits him outside these walls. From below, in each university, in every city you can take action, through the struggle, on which decisions are made at our expense. We use these days to build a large mobilization Unical, to make our voice heard again, to build our own future.
